Spruce Meadows, one of the biggest shows in the world has ended. And wow, what an end. Nicola and H&M Harley v/d Bisschop finished 5th in the Grand Prix. During the first round, they got one fence down, but they completed the second one spotless.
As Aachen is the Mecca for this sport in Europe, so is Spruce Meadows across the ocean. All top riders and horses gather here to ride on an immense grass arena with large fences up to 1,70m. Nicola and H&M Harley started the GP really well, but half way the first round they tapped the fence and it fell down. In total, 13 combinations were selected to ride the second round (only 7 of them rode a clear first round). And of course, one of them was our Nicola. He had to kick off the second round first, and made his entrance... A clear round within 67 seconds only.
"H&M Harley v/d Bisschop jumped really well.", analyses Nicola. "Our fence in the first round was a little my mistake. I came just to close because I was thinking of my five steps before the double... During the second round Harley gave the best of himself. Together we achieved a really good result. It could have been a little beter, but it was a though game. I'm really satisfied. This gives me confidence for the World Equestrian Games in Tryon. But first the Belgian Championships...".
Nicola already flew back to Belgium to arrive on time to focus on the Belgian Championships.
