Team Gold for Belgium at the European Championships for Juniors

2018
Promising future ahead

Thibault chases his ambitions. An uplifting training in Gorla Minora at the beginning of the year sets the line for the next months. He accumulates one victory after another, both in Junior championships and at international competitions. He wins no less than 24 international shows and qualifies for even more rankings.

He finishes European Championships for Juniors in Fontainebleau with a shining bronze medal after an outstanding performance in the saddle of Cataleya 3. On top, Thibault and his Belgian teammates defend Belgium’s top position and become European Champion. No doubt that also this generation is full of talent.

Not only Cataleya 3, but also Jami van Dorperheide is there to witness many victories. At this moment, Thibault is still a student that has to go to class during the day. “I combine equestrian with high school at the Sint-Augustinus institute in Bree. When I graduate, all my focus will go to the horses, as the combination with higher studies is almost impossible.”

Hard work pays off

During the U25 class at Saut-Hermès Paris, Thibault … with Jaimy van Dorperheide. He has a special bond with Jaimi, “ She’s bred here, at home. It’s a playful and friendly horse, but she also has a strong focus. And an important side note: She’s a grandchild of Darco. Even those who’re not familiar with the equestrian world know the legendary stallion Darco.”, says Thibault proudly. Very special, as father Ludo has build his way to the top with Darco.

When Sentower Park hosts the CSIO for Youth, Thibault comes forward as the best Belgian rider. The 18-years old Thibault is clearly on his way to the top. He also took some steps towards his bigger career. He rides his first Nations Cup in Helsinki and he makes his debut at 5* level. No better place for his first time than at Jumping Mechelen.

Because traditionally, Thibault concludes the year at Jumping Indoor Maastricht followed by Jumping Mechelen. That’s where it all began for father Ludo, Jumping Indoor Maastricht. “I marked this competition in my agenda”, smiles the third son of the family. And also here, Thibault rides impressive rounds rewarded with a victory in the CSI 4* 1,45 class.

The year of Laurier

Together with his younger brother, Thibault leaves to Oliva (Spain) by the beginning of the year. And yes, it is a good training. He ends up more than ten times in the top ten.

In summer, it’s time for the Belgian Championship for Young Riders. His partner on this journey? Laurier. Some strong performances combined with unfortunate faults conclude in a third place.

It’s with the same horse that Thibault sets down other great results later that year. The two even managed to win the Young Riders Grand Prix at the famed CHIO Aachen. A little later, the Thibault and Laurier bring home two golden medals from the Nations Cup in Sentower Park

It’s for sure: we’re about to hear more about this talented 19 year-old Philippaerts son.
